
Ilana Yamin

Ilana Yamin, LMSW, MPA is an experienced clinician who has supported adults, children, couples and families. She has supported diverse families through the perinatal period. Ilana has experience with common issues faced by new families including birth trauma, cesarean birth and VBAC, home birth, high-risk pregnancies, medically complex children, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADS), miscarriage and still birth, pregnancy after loss and rainbow births, IVF and third-party reproduction, LGBTQ+ family building, solo parenting by choice or by circumstance, relationship and co-parenting challenges, and conflict with grandparents and extended family. As a therapist, Ilana is passionate about bringing together her clinical social work training and previous experience as a doula to provide therapy for families navigating the perinatal period and transition into parenting.
Ilana has worked in social services, non-profit organizations and government agencies for nearly 20 years. She began her clinical career supporting women and children who experienced intimate partner violence and gender-based violence. She brings this knowledge of trauma informed care and techniques for coping with fear, anxiety and past trauma to her practice. Ilana’s approach to psychotherapy is strengths based, empathic and non-judgmental. Ilana is a passionate and committed advocate for social and racial justice with extensive experience serving low-income families, BIPOC and immigrant communities, and LGBTQ communities.
Ilana received her Master’s in Clinical Social Work from The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She also holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Baruch College. She has completed additional training in holding space for pregnancy loss with the Institute for Birth, Breath and Death, the perinatal mental health intensive at the Seleni Institute, and is currently enrolled in the Critical Therapy Institute. Ilana is also a Certified birth doula CD(DONA) and Infant Lactation and Feeding Specialist (ILFS).
